Our shadows were children the horizon a nightlight, my skin Vodka white in the womb of the Atlantic, bioluminescence like sparks conducting electricity strip wire symphony, naked limbs paired and easily divided in the remainder wading between constants; prenatal combination, the tide rolling in contractions, and like ships to harbor it bore us to shore.

The point of it all

The city has streets that sink into the other side of the world. Amidst their ruins, dead calluses are slowly petrified in the ghosts of shoe soles and former tires. Mediums claim the echoes of former pedestrians weeping for their dislodged joints and lost groceries still thunder in the depths below the stapled smiles of the mayor that shine on every wall above the lunar imitation. Meandering, the life crashes with weary ears and the map just jumps off a window as the former arrow rips off its point, just like this poem written with a prehistoric leg ten powerless knuckles and a fruitless voice.

I taste rain on your lips and I know you’ve been writing poetry again. I breathe into the touch of your fingers cascading in a soft scale down the cage of bones around my heartbeat. you kiss me knowing the colors that drift in my mind like water beneath all the bridges that were burned for me and you stay.

Without You

last night without you the world did not end, although every building shook. i'm still picking up loose bricks and bits, cleaning house, mending the yard. even now without you. i feel guilty not inviting you. keeping you in the dark. lying-- or at least omitting truths (joyful truths, to be sure)-- to the face of my old friend. still somehow there was fallout. even the absence of you does some damage. even your shadow shakes tables knocks down a drink or two. and this morning it all felt like a dream. like some quaint, sober nightmare. not completely despairing-- rather nice, to be honest-- but still awful like a knife being removed (at last!) from a wound: you can breathe again, for a minute or so, you think, but now there is a new raw, red horror-- the hot sensation of drowning in your own living blood, suffocating, almost, in your own nourishment, breathless, speechless, as the oxygen betrays you, abandons you suddenly. it's almost enough to ask the nurses to put

I sense a leak, something vast and nameless passing too quickly to track. I always pretend to grow darker and more intricate, to become more like conversations that only happen at night in careful whispers, as they plummet into their beds. I've watched countless rooms undress, spidering out of their skins through zippers and seams, faces in the walls with anguished shrieks, yet to become the ache of a chair, the skin of a finger whose voice swells in my head. this time, all of the time, whose voice unwraps my secrets when I'm able to remember the weathered ice of this lake. what I dream, hold and keep, what rasps in the wind, what lingers and touches me through the cracks.

I sit with you and listen, 'cause you might want to tell me what I neglected. If I don't force you, you will ecentually retrieve until you return for the next chapter.

Today the sun rose slowly, Over the steamy sea. There were sounds of water lapping, As the tide crept close to me. Wet sand was intermittent as the water lapped the shore, The seagulls raced the water in Between the shells galore. The humidity is creeping up, The breeze is turning warm, The yachts and cats are still - In the waters, blue and calm. Today it is a pile of rocks, clay, and sand But once it was a mountain so tall and grand. Now it's just a stump and not much at all Though it was once a redwood so great and tall. Today it's a desert where no water can be found But it used to be the floor of an ancient ocean sound. Today it's just an island with very little to see But once it was a continent with lakes and trees. The waves of the sea turn the rocks into sand As do the glaciers grinding slowly across the land. Wood becomes dirt and rock becomes sand; Ground becomes ocean and sea becomes land. Stone into sand then sand into stone; Bone into soil and soil into bone. Nothing will stay the same; In time nothing will remain.
